Pelvic Health Physical Therapy and Sexual Function: Enhancement and Treatment
This workshop is based on some of the findings from Calista’s PhD research, which explores the pivotal role of pelvic health physical therapists in addressing sexual dysfunction. This session will provide a comprehensive look at how the pelvic floor muscles influence sexual function and response, and how targeted physical therapy can aid in the assessment and treatment of various sexual disorders. The conditions discussed include Sexual/Interest/Arousal Disorder, Orgasmic Disorder, and Genito-pelvic Pain Penetration Disorder in cis-females, as well as Premature Ejaculation and Erectile Dysfunction in cis-males, as outlined in the DSM-5. Attendees will learn about the role of a pelvic health therapist on the sexual health care team and how to utilize the knowledge gained going forward. Participants will walk away not only having a deeper understanding of the impact the pelvic floor muscles have on patients experiencing sexual dysfunction but also how pelvic floor muscle exercises can personally enhance one’s sexual well-being.
This workshop is offered asynchronously and the first Module will be shared on Monday, April 21, 2025.
